HOW TO WATCH VR
We're often asked about the various ways you can watch VR. Below is our beginner's guide.
And for a breakdown of the headsets available on the market, this is one of the best articles I've read on the subject... https://goo.gl/CxWEib
There are four main ways to watch VR content:
1. On a desktop.
This is the least immersive but most accessible. Anyone who has access to the internet can watch 360-degree video content online by clicking-and-dragging to move around the 360 image. This video content can easily be embedded into your own current website.
2. On a mobile (without headset)
When the same 360-degree content is watched on a mobile, instead of clicking-and-dragging, your phone will automatically track your movement (using a gyroscope), so that you physically look around the space. Anyone with a smartphone has this function available to them.
3. On a mobile (with headset).
To really experience the full effect, we highly recommend using a VR headset. These range from the entry-level Google Cardboard (£15) where you need to hold the headset in place (but work with all brands of phone), to more luxurious headsets like the Samsung Gear and Google Daydream (that work in conjunction with their respective brand of phone and retail at around £60).
4. On a PC-powered headset.
For high-powered experiences (usually involving real-time processing of CGI content) and to unlock the full potential of VR, you’ll need a high-end headset like the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive (approx £500). They also need to be accompanied by a high-powered computer and graphics card (starting at around £500). This is the most immersive but least accessible. Great for trade shows and events.
